Breaking Down the Code

Let's use a common tire size as an example: 205/55 R 16.

205: Section Width

This is the width of the tire from sidewall to sidewall, measured in millimeters.

55: Aspect Ratio

This is the height of the sidewall, expressed as a percentage of the section width. In this case, the sidewall height is 55% of 205mm.

16: Rim Diameter

This is the diameter of the wheel that the tire is designed to fit on, measured in inches.

Calculating the Total Diameter
